About the event Our very popular Young Leader Training Weekend is back due to popular demand! This training weekend is an amazing opportunity for Young Leaders to achieve the training requirements of the role through a combination of leadership training and practical outdoor activities. The course will introduce leadership skills and awareness using practical activities and tasks to create an understanding of the implications of leadership. Participants will leave with modules A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J. Module K (first aid) and missions will need to be completed locally to complete the award. Each participant will leave with a logbook to chart progression, which must be signed by the leader overseeing their volunteering. What you’ll be doing We have created a varied programme that is adapted to suit the needs of individual groups whilst enabling our team of instructors to pass on their extensive knowledge. Our team has extensive experience and has developed a range of leadership methods and techniques through years of coaching outdoor activities. Young Leaders will be taking part in and have the opportunity to lead activity sessions, such as rock climbing, high ropes, team building, and wide games. We have opted for a practical programme, carefully picking activities to match the requirements for the Young Leader’s training scheme. What kit do I need? Please note this weekend will mainly take place outdoors, therefore participants will need clothing for the conditions. Once booked on the course, you'll be sent a consent form and a nights away passport, these should be signed and handed in upon arrival. Cost The cost of this weekend is £75. We have already funded part of the cost, but for further help with funding please approach your group/district or region!

72nd Glasgow Scout Group Appeal for Leaders/Helpers
We desperately need more adult leaders and helpers, male or female, in all the sections of our Scout Group. Previous Scout experience is not necessary, and in any case training is available, mostly online.  More info is available on the main scouts website here.

This acute shortage of leaders has now come to a critical points as our long terms Scouts leader Jim Peebles sadly passed away in November 2022, and without new Leaders and helpers, the 72 Glasgow Scouts Troop may not be able to continue.  So this is a direct appeal to anyone whom is interested to contact Robert Wright at his email of robertwright981@btinternet.com.

The Beaver meetings for 6 & 7 year olds include games, handcraft, and scout themed badgework. Their motto is Fun and Friends.

The Cub meetings for 8 to 10 year olds also have games but include a start to Scout skills training, some outdoor.

Scout Troop meetings for 10 to 14 year olds have games too but there is structured Scout training in outdoor skills and inter-patrol competitions. The troop offers many activities away from the HQ such as this summer's activity camp in Wales. We hope in the coming years to restart our highlight visits to Switzerland and Italy, Canada and USA.

The Explorer Unit
for 15-17 year olds concentrates on the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Currently, because of leader shortage, membership is to boys who have been in our troop.
The recent pandemic has not only reduced the size of the Beaver Colony, the Cub Pack and the Scout Troop but we have lost adult leaders as well. As the sections start to grow again, eg troop numbers.
About the BEAVERS image
Beaver Scouts - 6 to 8 years
Beaver Scouts are boys and girls between 6 and 8 years of age. They meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony on Mondays.
Beaver Scouting is all about having fun, making friends and learning new skills. Young people start to gain some independence while trying out many different activities and experiencing new adventures. The fun includes going on visits, making things, playing games and exploring the world around them.
Every week, they gather in groups called Beaver Colonies to hop, skip and jump their way through lots of different games and activities – achieving anything they set their minds to, and having lots of fun along the way.
Beavers follow a Balanced Programme, earning Challenge Awards and Activity Badges, but the most important parts are joining in and trying their best.
Boys and girls aged 6 or 7 can become a Beaver Scouts and, around the time of their 8th birthday, Beavers 'swim up' to Cubs to continue on their path through Scouting.

For more information on Uniform and costs see the main scouts webpage.  The badge positions are shown here.

Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts are boys and girls between 8 and 10½ years of age. They meet together once a week on a Wednesday evening at 7:00pm to 8:30pm in their Cub Scout Pack.

There is a facebook site used on facebook.com/groups/72cubs/
There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform.
Cubs follow a Balanced Programme, which gives them a chance to try new things, work with other people, explore the world around them and develop personal skills. Cubs also get the change to go on all sorts of outings including day trips and longer trips such as summer camps.
The core age range of the Cub Scout Section is from 8 to 10½ years, although young people may remain in the Pack until their 11th birthday before moving on to Scouts.

Scouts
Scouts are boys and girls between 10½ and 14 years of age. They meet together once a week on Friday evening form 7.30pm to 9:30 PM in a Scout Troop.
Scouts take part in a Balanced Programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents.

It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes. Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. The emphasis is on taking part and there are a number of badges and awards Scouts can work towards to recognise their commitment and achievements. The top badge is the Chief Scout's Gold Award.
Being outdoors is important in the Scout Section and half the Programme is given over to taking part in traditional Scouting skills such as camping, survival and cooking as well as a wide range of adventurous activities, which can include anything from abseiling to yachting.

The chance to take part in international travel is also important for Scouts and many travel abroad during their time in the Section.
Young people may stay in the Scout Section until the age of 14½ at the latest before moving on to Explorer Scouts.

About the explorers image
Explorer Scouts
Explorers are young adults between 14 and 18 years of age. They meet together once a week in a Explorer Scout Unit.
The Explorer Scout section is a district section, and our local Explorer Unit is called 'Apache Explorers' and meet in the 72 Glasgow Scout Hall Unit. This allows the unit to maintain close links with the Scout Group while remaining independent. The Explorer Unit works with the other Units throughout the District allowing it to offer a wide range of activities for it's members.

Explorers can gain a wide range of badges and awards, particularly activity badges. These can range from canoeing and mountain biking to sports and public relations.
A unique part of being an Explorer Scout is the chance to become a Young Leader in the Beaver, Cub and Scout Sections. This gives Explorers the chance to:
  • gain the knowledge, skills and confidence required to become an effective Leader
  • further their own personal development
  • work towards other Awards for example the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.
  • acquire the skills that are needed for the Scouts Adult Training Scheme
  • and above all, have fun!
The Unit meets each week and will often be out and about at weekends or in the holidays doing activities.
Explorers are also able to take part in international travel during their time in the Section.
Young people may stay in the Explorer Section until the age of 18 before they move on to the Network Section and/or become adult Leaders.
